About Fringe
Fringe aims to strengthen the local scene for new media practitioners in Stockholm.
By new media practitioners we mean people who are using technology (computers, analog and digital electronics, physical computing, etc) as a material to produce some sort of works (art, design, architecture, music, visuals, etc). We are not talking about “new media” in the sense of cross-media advertising productions or stuff like that.
Fringe Gatherings are recurring events where we meet up somewhere in the city. Typically there are three or four presentations, which can mean a PowerPoint-type presentation, but also other types of performances or screenings. We strive to keep a balance between experienced artists and new talents as well as between science/technology and arts. Typically these are followed by a second block with artistic presentations, DJ, VJ etc, and usually a bar of some sort. Gatherings are always free. The people on the Fringe list (see below) are all invited. Fringe gatherings are typically hosted by some other organization who provide a physical space for the gathering. The hosting party are also welcome to invite whoever they want to.
Fringe Workshops are anything from a few hours to several days. The number of participants are usually limited, so you will need to sign up in advance. There may be fees involved to cover the costs.
Fringe Events are events other than gatherings and workshops.
The Fringe List is basically just a list of e-mail addresses of the people who want to come to the gatherings. It does not cost you any money to sign up, but we do hope you are willing to give something back. Fringe is run “by the people, for the people”. Maybe you can help by giving a presentation yourself, helping out or arranging a workshop, convince somebody to host a gathering, or maybe just make some coffee. We are the Fringe. To sign up (or off) send an e-mail to info@fringe.nu and tell us who you are.
Fringe (this Fringe) is not in any way related to the Fringe festivals started in Edinburgh and now running around the world. We do have a history that dates back a few years when Fringe was started in Gothenburg by people at the Interactive Institute Play studio and the Art and technology department at Chalmers.
The Fringe organizers are currently Alberto Frigo, Tina Finnäs, Ingvar Sjöberg and Fredrik Bridell. Fringe is an initiative by the Interactive Institute, in particular the Art & Technology program.
